About / Method

Independent analysis, designed to be tested.

Atlas explores how particular places might connect institutional assets, housing, learning, work, mobility and community. Entries are starting points for discussion—not endorsements, rankings or announcements.

01

Verified fact

A claim supported by a cited public source. Dates and institutional statements are treated with appropriate limits.

02

Inference

A conclusion drawn from evidence, clearly separated from what a source directly states.

03

Scenario

A possible future used to test choices, dependencies and tradeoffs—not a forecast.

04

Knowledge Towns proposal

An independent idea for discussion. It does not imply agreement, participation or endorsement by named organizations.

Publication record

Count places, not dates.

The New England counter is calculated from distinct published records. Lowell remains #19.

The Waterville package originally discussed under the same installment number was never published in the Atlas. Its surviving research, thesis and source record were reconciled on October 7, 2026, and Waterville was published as the next distinct place, #20. It was not counted twice or treated as a second publication on its original preparation date.

Standard disclosure
